Tooth Extraction Aftercare Instructions
Having a tooth removed requires delicate initial healing. Dr. J.P. McKenna provides simple step-by-step instructions to ensure recovery is fast, comfortable, and problem-free.
First 24 Hours: Protect the Clot
Avoid vigorous rinsing, spitting, or touching the extraction site. Strictly avoid smoking or alcohol for at least 48 hours, as suction and chemicals dislodge the protective blood clot, which could trigger a painful dry socket.
After 24 Hours: Warm Salt Rinses
After 24 hours have passed, gently rinse your mouth with warm water mixed with half a teaspoon of salt after eating. Let the water roll out gently into the sink without aggressive swishing.
Diet & Pain Relief
Eat cool, soft foods (soups, yoghurts, eggs) on the unaffected side of your mouth. Never drink through a straw. Take standard pain relief (paracetamol or ibuprofen) as recommended before numbness wears off.
